Meet Our Horses
What do Our Horses Do?
Our therapy horse herd consists of miniature horses, Haflingers, Quarter Horses and Gypsys. The therapy horses are trained using natural horsemanship. These horses are not rescue horses and have not experienced trauma. The mini horses have the disposition of horses and not the “naughty” ponies that many of us experienced as kids. All the therapy horses have been professionally trained and are healthy and sound and have other active jobs. The ranch staff works with them consistently outside of the therapy sessions. These horses also receive consistent chiropractic, acupuncture, cold laser and low frequency sound therapies.
Our horses exhibit an interest in people and have lots of curiosity. They are friendly, willing, patient, have low reactivity and a high level of spatial awareness. They all have lots of personality!!
The current therapy horses all have been owned or trained by Tammy for a number of years and consistently handled with Natural horsemanship methods. The horses have gentle dispositions and get along well with other horses and enjoy interactions with people.

Bunny
As a therapy horse, Bunny served as an amazing teacher and stress reliever to abused women and children, trauma survivors and Veteran’s as well as survivors of sexual assault, children that were molested and survivors of domestic violence. She was the reason that Tammy went to grad school and formed the Wellness Ranch. Bunnny had also been known to do an occasional in home Hospice visit. Before becoming a therapy horse, Bunny led an exciting life in show and competitive performance events! Driving, cow horse events, cowboy mounted shooting, mountain trails, cutting, reining, reined cow horse, bridle less exhibitions to being an extreme cowboy race champion! Bunny was the matriarch of the herd and is now with us in spirit and we see her influences live on through Pistol.

Pistol
Pistol is Bunny’s legacy….. Stylin’ Little Legacy is his registered Quarter Horse name. Pistol was professionally trained and experienced a lifetime of Natural horsemanship training. He is a cow horse and Pistol is very smart, very curious and playful. He has been a partner in therapy sessions for the majority of his life. Tammy delivered Pistol and has known him every minute of his life. Pistol is very aware of everything on the ranch, is playful and has been known to stir up lots of mischief. Pistol loves therapy sessions and is often the first one to the gate.

Scout
Registered Quarter Horse - AR Especial Colonel. Scout started his career with Pat Parelli and his proteges. Scout’s natural horsemanship training continued through his partnership with Tammy’s longtime friend Cathy. Scout moved to the wellness ranch to support Cathy through her battle with cancer. Scout now enthusiastically engages and supports a variety of clients and is a favorite at the retreats.
-
Nitro
Quarter Horse - River Dynamite. Professionally trained and used as a ranch horse until he was 6. He has done natural horsemanship ever since under the guidance of his former partner and Tammy’s lifelong friend, Paige. Nitro moved to the ranch to support Paige and has been with us since 2018 when Paige lost her battle with cancer. Nitro is an introvert but he doesn’t miss a thing and he is a big part of our herd dynamics activity at the retreats.

Duke
Duke is a Painted Haflinger. Duke was trained by the Amish and driven for over 15 years prior to coming to the Wellness Ranch. Duke learned Natural horsemanship training when he arrived at the ranch and has been a therapy horse ever since. Duke lost his brother Dan to a tumor a few years ago and now is a teammate to both Daisy and Dandy. He has also helped to train Pistol and Scout to drive. He will be key in mentoring the new Gypsy driving horses as they learn to pull wagons. “Uncle Duke” is currently mentoring both Splash and Dandy.
-
Daisy
Daisy is a Haflinger and her previous career was as a driving horse. Daisy was driven as a single, in a team of 2 , in a team of 4 and a six up team. She lost her driving partner Annie and we purchased her to be Duke’s new partner. Daisy is the “worker” in the driving team and motivates Duke. She is a calm soul on the ranch and a great female presence.
-
Dandy
Registered as a half Gypsy – the other half is Quarter horse. She has the most beautiful long mane and tail. Dandy is learning natural horsemanship and relational partnerships. She is learning quickly and will very soon be a part of the therapy herd. Her previous career was as a broodmare. She has had 2 previous foals before she came to the ranch. She presented us with a filly in 2024 – SPLASH - and another one due in 2026. These foals will be our new driving horses in our driving team as well as eventually therapy horses. Duke is mentoring Dandy and Splash in their learning journey to be driving horses. Dandy will be joining the therapy herd soon.

Durango
Durango is a Registered miniature horse. Durango is trained to ride, drive and was shown in trail obstacle competitions. He was shown in a variety of classes and events prior to coming to us.
